After almost a year of drawn-out teasers in the form of mysterious symbols and maps, fans finally learned about the Batman game Warner Bros. Montreal has been developing for years during the DC FanDome virtual event. The highly anticipated video game from the Batman: Arkham Origins developer is titled Gotham Knights, and the reveal at DC FanDome featured a ton of new details that give us a great idea of what we can expect. Here’s what we know about Gotham Knights so far.
Batman Is Dead
The Gotham Knights trailer revealed during DC FanDome featured a shocking development that is at the heart of the story: Batman is dead, for now anyway. After this reveal, many assumed that it was a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight given what happens in that game, but Warner Bros. Montreal were quick to point out that this is set in its own continuity.
Protect Gotham City as the Bat-Family
Because the Dark Knight has fallen, it’s now up to the Bat-family to protect the streets of Gotham City. Mr. Freeze was the most notable member of the rouge’s gallery seen in the Gotham Knights gameplay reveal, but there have been teases of Two-Face as well. We also know that the Court of Owls will have a major role in the game.
Gotham Knights gives you the opportunity to play as Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), Jason Todd (Red Hood), and Tim Drake (Robin).While combat is clearly inspired by the groundbreaking Batman: Arkham series, each character will also have their own unique gameplay and character progression that will dictate the enemies you face.
Team Up With Another Hero
Gotham Knights is also being described as an open-world RPG, which will give you the opportunity to explore the five boroughs of the city. Batman: Arkham Knight game gave players the chance to drive the Batmobile in a controversial element from the game, but in Gotham Knights, you will now have the chance to drive the Batcycle. You can also play Gotham Knights on your own or play with another member of the bat-family in co-op mode.
You might have to wait a little while before you get your hands on Gotham Knights and play on a console or enjoy the game on a Batcomputer of your own at home. What we know about Gotham Knights’ release date is that it will be coming out sometime in 2021. As for what consoles it will be on, the game will be available on both current and next-generation consoles.
