Plastic surgery is gaining popularity every year. In 2020, people in the United States spent over $16 billion on cosmetic surgeries. There was a time when getting plastic surgery was something no one talked about. Today, more people are straightforward about their procedures and publicly share their opinions on surgeons. With the popularity of cosmetic surgery, we gathered the top five most common plastic surgery procedures for everyday people.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
A rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a nose job, is one of the most common plastic surgeries. When getting a nose job, the surgeon may reduce the size of your nose or contour areas of the nose for a more satisfactory appearance. In some cases, if someone has a deviated septum, nose jobs improve breathing.
Rhytidectomy (Facelift)
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is the surgical answer to wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of aging. A facelift tightens the skin of the face to give it a more youthful appearance. Other procedures, like forehead lifts, eyelid shaping, or skin peels, often accompany a facelift to enhance overall appearance.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is when a surgeon extracts the extra fat and skin around the eyelid and tightens the eyelid’s muscle tissue. Eyelid surgery helps reduce aging and sagging around the eyes. This surgery is relatively short, only 30–60 minutes, and is typically an outpatient surgery.
Breast Reduction
A breast reduction is a procedure that reduces the size and weight of the patient’s breasts. Breast reductions relieve back, neck, and chest pain and improve posture. This surgery is one of the few cosmetic surgeries covered by most insurance carriers.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that helps patients achieve a slimmer figure or improve the shape of a particular part of their body. Liposuction is not the answer to weight loss, but it will help contour the body. There are two types of lipo procedures: tumescent and ultrasonic-assisted (UAL). Both techniques remove excess body fat to give a slimmer silhouette. Tumescent liposuction, the most popular technique, uses microcannulas to suction fat out of the body, while UAL melts the fat before suctioning it out. UAL procedures are a bit riskier and take longer.
And there you have it! Those were the five most common plastic surgery procedures for everyday people today. Were you surprised?
