The debate continues: “Where to spend New Year’s Eve?” Is that really a question? That’s a bit of a no-brainer, isn’t it? It makes me remember that New York is called: “The City that Never Sleeps”, how’s that work with “last call”? hehe. There’s no last call here in Vegas, we go 24×7.
I wanted to take this moment to elaborate on why, in my opinion, Las Vegas is THE BEST place to ring in the new year. Every year!
Weather
The normal high temperature on New Year’s Day in Las Vegas is 56 degrees, while the normal low is 38 degrees. Admittedly 38 degrees is cold, however, we’re expecting 50’s on New Year’s Eve with a low right about freezing. So many locales are below zero at this time, windy, buried in snow. Sunny of course.
Fireworks Show
The 2020 Las Vegas Fireworks show, America’s Party, will launch from seven Strip properties: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, and Strat. It truly is a spectacular show that can be seen from The Strip, Downtown, hotel rooms, the highways, and the greater Las Vegas area far and wide as Las Vegas is a valley.
Events
Las Vegas New Year’s Even is more than just fireworks and tons of people in the streets. This year, for example, all happening on the 31st:
- Ozuna Pearl, Concert Theater At Palms Casino Resort
- Christina Aguilera, Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood
- Lizzo, The Chelsea – The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
- Paula Abdul, Donny & Marie Showroom at Flamingo Hotel
- Stick Figure, Brooklyn Bowl – Las Vegas
- Journey, The Colosseum at Caesars Palace
- Maroon 5, Mandalay Bay – Events Center
- Confunkshun, Orleans Showroom at The Orleans Hotel
- Lady Gaga – Jazz & Piano, Park Theater at Park MGM
- Third Eye Blind, House Of Blues – Las Vegas
- Vegas Golden Knights vs. Anaheim Ducks, T-Mobile Arena
- …and more…
Nightlife
I’m only going to touch the surface here, if a venue isn’t mentioned it is not a slight, there are so many options. If nightlife is the name, this is the game:
- Lil Jon, 1 Oak Nightclub
- Steve Aoki, Hakkasan Nightclub
- DJ Mustard, Marquee Nightclub
- NAS, Tao Nightclub
- Future, Drais Nightclub
- Calvin Harris, Omnia Nightclub
- TYGA, Jewel Nightclub
- The Chainsmokers, XS Nightclub
- Guy Gerber with Special Guest Kaz James, Encore Beach Club
Accommodations
No matter your preferences, there is a room for you in Las Vegas. In 2018, the city had 147,238 available lodging rooms, down from the previous year’s figure by almost one and a half thousand rooms. Moreover, the average daily rate (in 2018) was $129.83 U.S. dollars after a consistent pattern of historical growth – the growth rate from 2017 to 2018 was barely over two percent. With options like Wynn, Encore, The Venetian, The Palazzo, the Bellagio, and more, you really can’t go wrong.
Dining
Where else can you find the most master sommeliers of any city in the United States, Joël Robuchon, Guy Savoy, L’Atelier Joël Robuchon, Le Cirque, Mesa Grill, Michael Mina, and Wing Lei all within minutes drives of each other??? It should also be noted that Joël Robuchon, Guy Savoy, and L’Atelier Joël Robuchon were all Michelin Star rated and Joël Robuchon even received a prestigious 3-Stars. Perhaps dinner with 20-foot floor to ceiling windows on the 23rd floor of Waldorf at Twist by Pierre Gagnaire? No? Not looking for dinner? Afternoon tea is always an option.
Las Vegas actually Doesn’t Sleep
Want to get get your favorite meal at 3 am, check. Want to gamble at 5:30 am, check. How about “last call”? It doesn’t exist. Need an Uber, limousine, sedan, private jet, or a boat at 11 pm, check. Las Vegas is, bar none, the city that never sleeps with just about anything and everything available around the clock.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a New Year’s Celebration where options are seemingly limitless, the best of everything is minutes away, and comfortable temps are available Las Vegas is your city. I won’t be standing on The Strip any time soon, even that’s still too cold for this guy, I’ll take my New Years high off the ground with an afternoon tea on New Years Day.
